Teni Challenges Tiwa Savage to ₦1.5bn Celebrity Boxing Bout, Says ‘Pick a Date’

Teni Challenges Tiwa Savage to ₦1.5bn Celebrity Boxing Bout, Says ‘Pick a Date’
Nigeria’s entertainment scene has been thrown into another lively celebrity showdown after Afrobeats singer Teni challenged fellow music star Tiwa Savage to a boxing match, proposing a whopping ₦1.5 billion purse for the anticipated bout.
Teni, whose real name is Teniola Atinuke Apata, made the challenge in a video shared on social media while discussing the earnings of Nigerian entertainers and the expensive lifestyles associated with some music stars.
In her characteristically playful manner, the “Fargin” singer called on Tiwa Savage to step into the ring with her, joking about how she would deal with the award-winning singer during the proposed fight.
Teni also linked the proposed fight to the huge sums entertainers command, asking whether a ₦1.5 billion purse would be enough to afford a luxury car such as a Bugatti. She further joked that she would sing Tiwa’s hit song My Darling for her after the bout.
However, what initially appeared to be entertainment banter received an interesting response from Tiwa Savage.
Rather than dismissing the challenge, Tiwa responded directly in the comment section with three simple words: “Pick a date.” Her response immediately generated reactions among fans, with many interpreting it as an acceptance of Teni’s challenge.
The exchange has consequently raised expectations about the possibility of the two female Afrobeats stars eventually meeting inside a boxing ring, particularly at a time when celebrity boxing is gaining attention in Nigeria.
Recent celebrity boxing events have featured popular entertainers and personalities, including Big Brother Naija winner Phyna and actress Nkechi Blessing. Phyna recently defeated Nkechi Blessing by knockout in a bout organised under the Chaos in the Ring series in Lagos.
The growing popularity of such events has created a new entertainment crossover, combining celebrity rivalry, sports and show business while attracting significant attention on social media.
For now, however, the proposed Teni-Tiwa Savage fight remains at the challenge stage. No official promoter, formal agreement or confirmed date has been announced for the proposed bout.
If the challenge eventually becomes an official boxing event, it could become one of Nigeria’s most talked-about celebrity bouts, given the personalities involved and the proposed ₦1.5 billion purse.
For now, the ball appears to be in Teni’s court after Tiwa Savage’s response: “Pick a date.”
