Fulani Group Rejects Igboho’s Ultimatum, Calls for Peace and Unity in Oyo State
Fresh tension has emerged in Oyo State following a strong reaction by a Fulani socio-cultural group to the latest ultimatum reportedly issued by Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The group, under the aegis of the Fulani Solidarity Forum, condemned the directive allegedly asking Fulani residents to vacate parts of Oyo State, describing the move as provocative, unconstitutional, and capable of undermining peace in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its leaders maintained that Fulani communities have lived peacefully alongside other ethnic groups in Oyo State for decades and should not be subjected to threats or intimidation based on ethnicity.
The forum stressed that Nigeria remains a united country where every citizen has the constitutional right to reside and conduct lawful business in any part of the federation. It urged security agencies and relevant authorities to ensure that law and order prevail while protecting the rights of all residents.
According to the group, criminal activities should not be attributed to an entire ethnic nationality, noting that individuals found guilty of crimes should be prosecuted in accordance with the law regardless of their background.
The Fulani leaders also called on political, traditional, and religious stakeholders in Oyo State to promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence among all ethnic groups.
The development has sparked renewed debate over security concerns, ethnic relations, and the need for stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies in addressing criminality across the country.
Observers believe that sustained engagement among stakeholders will be critical to preventing further escalation and preserving the long-standing harmony among residents of Oyo State.
As reactions continue to trail the controversy, residents have appealed for calm, urging all parties to embrace peaceful dialogue and avoid statements capable of threatening the state’s security and stability.
