Osun APC Faces Fresh Crisis as Key Omisore Allies Resign Ahead of Governorship Election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State is battling renewed internal tensions following the resignation of several prominent loyalists of former National Secretary and governorship aspirant, Senator Iyiola Omisore, from the party.
The development has heightened concerns within the party just months before the state’s governorship election, with political observers warning that the wave of defections could affect the APC’s unity and electoral preparations.
Among those reported to have resigned are former Commissioner for Education, Oladoyin Bamisayemi, former Commissioner for Political Matters, Taiwo Akeju, Special Adviser on Higher Education, Jamiu Olawumi, and former lawmaker Adeyeye Olajide. Their departures have fueled speculation about growing dissatisfaction within the Omisore political camp.
The crisis is believed to be linked to unresolved grievances that emerged after the APC governorship primary process, where Omisore and several other aspirants were disqualified from contesting, paving the way for the emergence of Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s candidate.
Efforts by party leaders to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders have reportedly failed to achieve the desired outcome, as members of the Omisore camp continue to express dissatisfaction over political arrangements within the party.
The resignations have triggered intense debate among party supporters and stakeholders, with some APC members criticizing the defectors for leaving at a critical period, while others argue that the departures reflect deeper internal issues requiring urgent attention.
Political analysts say the situation presents a major test for the APC leadership in Osun as it seeks to maintain party cohesion and strengthen its chances in the forthcoming governorship election.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that some of the former APC chieftains may align with other political platforms or support alternative political interests ahead of the election, although no official declaration has been made by most of the defectors.
As political activities intensify across Osun State, stakeholders are calling on party leaders to pursue meaningful reconciliation efforts to prevent further defections and preserve the APC’s electoral strength ahead of the crucial governorship contest.
