Don’t Spread Unverified Claims — Ondo Govt Warns Residents Over Akure Security Rumours

The Ondo State Government has urged residents to disregard false and misleading reports circulating on social media and various messaging platforms alleging incidents of school kidnappings and the presence of bandits within Akure metropolis.
The government described the reports as fake, baseless, and capable of creating unnecessary fear and panic among residents. It stressed that comprehensive security assessments and intelligence reports from relevant security agencies have confirmed that the claims are unfounded and do not reflect the current security situation in the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Emmanuel Ajanaku, the government expressed concern over the growing spread of misinformation and fake news, warning that such actions pose serious threats to public peace, social harmony, and security operations.
According to the statement, the Ondo State Government, in collaboration with the Ondo State Police Command and other security agencies, has thoroughly investigated the reports and found no evidence to support claims of school abductions or the infiltration of Akure by bandits.
The government noted that the deliberate circulation of false information not only creates unnecessary anxiety among citizens but also diverts the attention of security agencies from their primary responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security across Ondo State. The government commended the Nigeria Police Force, the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for their professionalism, vigilance, and sustained efforts in ensuring the safety of residents.
Residents were advised to rely only on verified information from official government channels, accredited media organisations, and trusted communication platforms. The government further encouraged citizens to verify the authenticity of any information before sharing it and avoid forwarding messages capable of causing public alarm without credible evidence.
The administration also called on residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious movements, criminal activities, or any security concerns through appropriate channels.
The government emphasized that security remains a collective responsibility and urged all stakeholders to work together in sustaining the peace, stability, and development that Ondo State currently enjoys.
It reassured residents that all security agencies remain on high alert and are fully committed to protecting lives, property, and investments across the state.
