Court Stops Alao-Akala’s Widow from Selling Late Governor’s Assets Amid Family Dispute

An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has restrained Mrs. Kemi Alao-Akala, wife of the late former governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, from selling or disposing of any of his properties pending the determination of a legal dispute over the estate.
The order followed a suit filed by the deceased’s first daughter, Oluwatoyin Alao-Aderinto, who is challenging the administration of her father’s assets. She alleged that Kemi Alao-Akala and another defendant obtained a letter of administration without her consent and have been managing the estate to the exclusion of other rightful beneficiaries.
The claimant is asking the court to declare the letter of administration null and void, insisting that due process was not followed. She also accused the defendants of attempting to take control of the late governor’s wealth while sidelining other children of the deceased.
As part of her requests, she sought an injunction to prevent further sale or transfer of the assets, a move the court has now granted pending the outcome of the case. The dispute highlights a deepening family rift over the distribution of the late politician’s estate, which includes properties and other valuable assets within and outside Nigeria.
