Wike Blasts Opposition Coalition, Questions Credibility of Emerging Political Alliances
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a fresh attack on opposition political groups and emerging coalitions, 8accusing them of misleading Nigerians and lacking credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike, known for his outspoken political style, alleged that many opposition figures seeking to challenge the ruling government have failed to present convincing alternatives capable of addressing the country’s challenges.
Speaking during a political gathering, the former Rivers State governor argued that Nigerians are now more politically aware and can easily distinguish between genuine leadership and what he described as opportunistic alliances formed solely to gain power.
The FCT Minister specifically criticized emerging opposition platforms, including the proposed National Democratic Coalition (NDC) and other political movements, insisting that repeated promises without tangible results have eroded public confidence in their leadership.
According to Wike, political actors seeking public support must first account for their previous roles in government and explain why they failed to deliver meaningful development when they had the opportunity.
He maintained that voters are increasingly demanding accountability, transparency, and evidence of performance rather than campaign rhetoric and political grandstanding.
The minister also defended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that ongoing reforms are designed to reposition the Nigerian economy and address longstanding structural challenges confronting the nation.
Wike stated that while government policies may require time to produce desired outcomes, the administration remains focused on delivering infrastructure, economic stability, and improved governance across the country.
His remarks come amid growing political realignments and consultations among opposition leaders seeking to build a formidable coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Political analysts believe the latest exchange underscores the intensifying battle for public support as major political parties and interest groups begin positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.
With campaigns gradually taking shape, observers expect more verbal confrontations between government officials and opposition leaders as both sides compete to shape public opinion and define the national political narrative before 2027.
