Edo Protest Erupts Over Viral Bullying Incident at Igbinedion Education Centre

Tension escalated in Benin City as protesters stormed Igbinedion Education Centre following a viral video that exposed disturbing cases of student bullying.
The demonstrators, made up of concerned citizens and activists, gathered at the school to demand swift and decisive action against those involved in the incident. The widely circulated footage showed students being physically assaulted by their peers, sparking outrage across the community.
In response, the school management suspended the students identified in the video. However, the protesters rejected the move as insufficient, insisting on stricter punishment, including expulsion, to serve as a deterrent.
Chanting slogans and carrying placards, the protesters blocked the school entrance while calling for a thorough investigation and accountability. They also questioned the school’s internal disciplinary system and its ability to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Security personnel were deployed to the area to maintain order as authorities moved to calm tensions and reassure the public that appropriate steps were being taken.
The incident has heightened concerns about student safety and discipline, with many stakeholders calling for stronger measures to address bullying and ensure a safer learning environment in schools.
