INEC Highlights Peaceful Elections as Pillar of Nigeria’s Stability

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated that peaceful and credible elections are essential to sustaining Nigeria’s stability and democratic progress.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made this known while receiving members of the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies (ANNISS), led by Mike Ejiofor.
He explained that the success and credibility of elections depend heavily on a peaceful environment, stressing that violence and insecurity can undermine the integrity of the electoral process. He urged security agencies and key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration to ensure transparency, safety, and fairness in future elections.
The INEC chairman also acknowledged the contributions of ANNISS in enhancing Nigeria’s security architecture through the training of top-level personnel across military, intelligence, and regulatory institutions.
He further reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to delivering credible elections through improved strategies and sustained cooperation with relevant stakeholders, noting that a secure atmosphere remains critical to national development.
In his remarks, Ejiofor called for closer synergy between electoral bodies and security institutions, particularly as preparations gradually begin for upcoming general elections.
