PDP Tensions Escalate as Makinde, Wike Camps Trade Blame
The internal crisis rocking Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a fresh turn following a renewed exchange of sharp words between allies of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The latest confrontation has further exposed the widening cracks within the opposition party, with both camps accusing each other of actions capable of weakening the PDP ahead of future electoral contests. Statements issued by party chieftains aligned with the rival blocs reflect deep-seated disagreements over leadership, loyalty, and the direction of the party.
Supporters of Governor Makinde have faulted what they described as undue interference and parallel power structures within the party, insisting that internal democracy and collective decision-making must be respected. On the other hand, loyalists of Wike have accused the Makinde camp of undermining party unity and disregarding agreements reached by key stakeholders.
Political observers note that the ongoing war of words underscores unresolved grievances stemming from previous electoral cycles and internal power struggles. Despite repeated calls for reconciliation, efforts to restore harmony within the PDP have so far yielded limited results.
As tensions persist, party members and supporters are increasingly concerned that the prolonged crisis could weaken the PDP’s cohesion and electoral strength if not urgently addressed.
