Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing unnamed internal and external forces of hijacking the party and stripping it of democratic integrity.
In a strongly worded resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate departure from the party.
“My reason is simple and straightforward,” he wrote. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

Momodu expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership at the ward level for their unwavering support, but maintained that his conscience would not allow him to remain in what he described as a compromised structure.
His defection to the ADC signals a key political realignment in Edo State and further fuels speculation of shifting allegiances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Ovation International publisher, who joined the PDP in 2021 and was active in national conversations and party affairs, joins a growing list of high-profile exits amid mounting frustrations over the party’s internal crisis.
Political observers believe Momodu’s move could bolster the ADC’s rising profile as a viable third force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
