2027 Election: South-East Governors Declare Support for Tinubu’s Re-Election
Governors from Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone have reportedly resolved to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 general elections after assessing his administration’s performance in the region.
The announcement was made by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, during a meeting with the Imo State Elders Council and traditional rulers in Owerri.
According to Uzodimma, the five governors agreed that continued collaboration with the Federal Government would accelerate development across the South-East. He said the decision followed a collective review of ongoing federal projects and interventions in the region, adding that a joint visit to President Tinubu was being planned to formally convey the governors’ position.
The Imo governor cited several projects as reasons for the endorsement, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission, the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, approval for the reconstruction of the Eastern Rail Corridor, and ongoing road infrastructure projects linking key commercial and economic centres across the region. He maintained that these initiatives demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing longstanding developmental concerns in the South-East.
Uzodimma also reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Imo State’s Charter of Equity, insisting that the state’s next governor must emerge in line with the power-sharing arrangement designed to promote fairness and political stability. He stressed that the framework would not be compromised for personal political interests.

Alex Otti – Abia State
Chukwuma Soludo – Anambra State
Francis Nwifuru – Ebonyi State
Peter Mbah – Enugu State
Hope Uzodimma – Imo State
If confirmed, the endorsement could significantly influence the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially in the South-East, where support from governors across different political parties may shape regional political alignments and campaign strategies.
