2027: At Last, Deputy Gov, GNI, Akinlade Close Ranks With Yayi, Call For Ogun West Unity

The political imbroglio rocking Ogun West Senatorial District has been finally laid to rest, as political leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun West Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the party’s consensus governorship candidate, calling for unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The high-level meeting, held on Sunday in Ilaro, Ogun State, brought together prominent political figures across the district, all echoing a shared commitment to reconciliation, cohesion, and grassroots mobilisation to secure victory for the APC.
In his opening remarks, Minister of State for Health, Dr. Kunle Salako, reflected on Ogun West’s long-standing quest to produce a state governor since 1976.
He described Adeola’s emergence as a turning point, stressing that unity would be crucial to achieving the district’s long-held ambition.
He urged stakeholders to close ranks and ensure that all interests are aligned, noting that the time had come for Ogun West to speak with one voice.
Ogun West APC Chairman, Alhaji Azeez Ekwueme, welcomed the consensus candidacy, describing it as a positive development and a sign of internal progress within the party.
He commended party leaders for zoning the governorship slot to Ogun West and called on members to rally behind Adeola.
Former governorship aspirant, Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade, emphasised the need for sustained grassroots mobilisation, noting that consensus alone would not guarantee victory without collective effort at the polls.
Similarly, Gboyega Isiaka urged party members to set aside political differences and unite under a common goal, stressing that the moment called for collaboration rather than division.
Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade described the consensus arrangement as historic, noting that it marked a rare moment of political alignment in the state.
He also acknowledged the role of Governor Dapo Abiodun in facilitating the agreement and called on party faithful to actively promote Adeola’s candidacy, including through social media engagement.
In his remarks, Senator Adeola expressed gratitude to party leaders and stakeholders for their support and the mediation efforts that led to his emergence as the consensus candidate.
He pledged not to take the opportunity for granted and assured members of his commitment to inclusive leadership.
Describing the gathering as a symbol of unity, Adeola said the district must remain steadfast and work collectively toward electoral success.
He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and former governors of the state.
The Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the meeting as a defining moment for Ogun West, commending both the President and the state governor for their roles in achieving consensus.
She expressed optimism about the district’s chances in 2027 and urged the candidate to build an inclusive administration that accommodates women and other key stakeholders.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from party leaders to work together and ensure the APC’s victory across all elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
