Three Edo Assembly Lawmakers Defect to NDC, Reshape Minority Bloc
Three members of the Edo State House of Assembly have officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a development that has further altered the political landscape of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defections were formally communicated to the Assembly through a letter submitted by the Edo State Chairman of the NDC, Babatunde Olukoga, and presented before lawmakers during plenary. The letter requested the House to formally recognize the affected legislators as members of the NDC.
The lawmakers involved in the political realignment are Charity Aiguobarhueghian, who represents Ovia North-East I Constituency, Natasha Osawaru of Egor Constituency, and Omosigho Frank, representing Oredo East Constituency. While Aiguobarhueghian and Osawaru left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Frank moved from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the NDC.
The NDC leadership also proposed a new minority leadership structure within the Assembly, nominating Natasha Osawaru as Minority Leader and Omosigho Frank as Minority Whip. The move is expected to strengthen the party’s presence and influence within the legislative chamber.
Political observers believe the defections reflect the growing momentum of the NDC, which has recently attracted several high-profile politicians and lawmakers across the country. The party has witnessed an influx of members from other political platforms as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
The latest development is expected to trigger fresh political calculations among major parties in Edo State, as stakeholders reposition themselves ahead of future electoral contests. With the NDC continuing to gain traction, analysts say the state’s political dynamics may witness further realignments in the coming months.
