Who’s After Egbetokun? Northern Justice Forum Raises Alarm Over
Alleged Plot Against IGP
The Northern Justice Forum (NJF) has come out strongly in defence of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, describing recent allegations linking him to a purported $2.5 million fraud as a calculated attempt to bring down a professional officer with an impeccable record.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the President of the forum, Alhaji Sharafa D. Usman, said the attacks against the IGP did not come as a surprise, noting that since Egbetokun assumed office, “evil perpetrators who thrive on disorder and injustice have not known sleep.”
According to Alhaji Usman, powerful interests unsettled by the IGP’s firm stance on justice, peace, and professionalism are desperately seeking his downfall. He described Egbetokun as a man who believes in the rule of law and national unity, stressing that such qualities have made him a target of sustained misinformation and blackmail.
“The question Nigerians should be asking is simple: who is after Egbetokun?” the NJF president said. “This is a man with a proven track record, a policing professional whose career has been built on discipline, integrity, and service to the nation. Those who benefited from lawlessness are uncomfortable with his leadership.”
The forum dismissed claims linking the IGP to any alleged fraud involving Henry Ikeji, insisting there is no evidence whatsoever to support such accusations. It warned that twisting routine official interactions into criminal narratives is dangerous and undermines public trust in state institutions.
The Northern Justice Forum further stated that there has been no internal crisis within the Nigeria Police Force, no illegal surveillance, and no unusual administrative actions as suggested in some reports. According to the group, all police operations and personnel matters continue to follow established legal and institutional procedures.
Alhaji Usman urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and not fall for what he described as “a coordinated smear campaign” aimed at destabilising the police leadership. He called on relevant authorities to investigate the source of the false narratives and hold those behind them accountable.
The forum reaffirmed its confidence in IGP Egbetokun, declaring that his commitment to justice, peace, and national security remains unshaken despite sustained attempts to discredit him.
