Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is now awake and steadily recovering after being placed in a medically induced coma following a terrifying incident during Sunday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.
The Nigerian international suffered an abdominal injury after colliding with the goalpost in a high-impact moment that silenced the City Ground. He underwent emergency surgery on Monday night, after which doctors placed him in a coma to reduce movement and regulate his heart rate during the critical phase of recovery.

The club explained that Marinakis’ actions were driven by fear and urgency over Awoniyi’s condition, calling tabloid claims that he clashed with manager Nuno Espírito Santo “fake news.”
“Mr. Marinakis’ presence on the pitch was purely out of concern for the player’s wellbeing. Any report suggesting a confrontation with the manager is entirely fabricated,” the statement read.
