Fallen Power Line Kills Two Children in Ondo, Raises Fresh Safety Concerns
Two seven-year-old boys have died from electrocution in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State after reportedly coming into contact with a fallen live electricity wire.
The victims, identified as Oloyede Ayo and Clinton Koleola, were reportedly inside a shop along Apefon Road when the incident occurred on Saturday, September 2
6, 2026.
Reports indicate that the electric wire fell onto the building but remained energised, creating a dangerous situation for residents and passers-by in the area. The two children reportedly attempted to escape from the shop before coming into contact with the live wire.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the dangers posed by fallen and exposed electricity cables, particularly in populated communities where residents may not immediately realise that a fallen wire remains electrically charged.
An eyewitness reportedly said the wire remained live after falling, leaving people in the vicinity exposed to potential electrocution.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, said preliminary findings indicated that the children were electrocuted after the live wire suddenly fell on the shop.
The police spokesman expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and said an investigation had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The deaths have also highlighted the need for residents to treat every fallen electricity cable as potentially live and dangerous. Electricity faults involving broken or fallen wires require immediate reporting to the relevant authorities rather than attempts by members of the public to approach or move the cable.
For the families of Ayo and Koleola, the incident has resulted in an especially painful loss, while the circumstances have raised wider questions about the safety of electricity infrastructure and emergency response in residential communities.
As police investigations continue, residents and relevant authorities are expected to await the outcome of the inquiry into how the wire fell and whether any additional safety measures are required to prevent similar tragedies.
