Supreme Court Nullifies PDP Ibadan Convention, Deepens Party Leadership Crisis
Nigeria’s Supreme Court has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held in Ibadan, delivering a landmark ruling that reshapes the party’s leadership structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
The apex court, in its judgment delivered in Abuja, declared the convention invalid and voided all decisions and outcomes arising from the exercise, including the emergence of a factional national executive.
The convention, held in November 2025, had been surrounded by legal disputes, with earlier court rulings questioning its legitimacy over alleged violations of existing judicial orders and party guidelines.
Despite ongoing litigation at the time, the exercise proceeded, prompting further legal challenges that eventually reached the Supreme Court for final determination.
With this ruling, the court has effectively invalidated any leadership produced from the disputed convention, raising fresh concerns over stability within the opposition party.
The decision is expected to have significant political implications, as the PDP continues efforts to resolve its internal crisis and reposition itself ahead of future electoral contests.
