Yahaya Bello Dismisses 2027 Presidential Ambition, Declares Full Support for Tinubu’s Re-Election
Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has denied harbouring any presidential ambition for 2027, declaring his full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Bello’s stance follows the circulation of a video on social media purportedly showing him launching a fresh presidential campaign. The former governor, however, clarified that the footage was from a 2022 rally and had been deliberately reposted to mislead the public.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by his Media Director, Michael Ohiare, Bello described the post as “senseless” and the handiwork of mischief makers intent on creating disunity within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“While we state categorically that our principal, Bello, has no 2027 presidential ambition, we want to also stress his unflinching commitment to the re-election of President Tinubu come 2027,” the statement read.
Ohiare pointed out that the video in question clearly showed 2022 dates on the banners, exposing the post as a deliberate attempt to cause confusion.
“Nigerians should disregard the mischievous post insinuating a fresh presidential support rally as what it is – a senseless post by a confused, witless mind,” he said.
He noted that Bello has remained loyal to President Tinubu, emphasizing that those attempting to drive a wedge between them were on a futile mission.
“This is not the first time detractors have spread falsehoods to pitch Yahaya Bello against the President, but they have failed woefully. The attempt to recycle an old video shows sheer desperation,” Ohiare added.
He reaffirmed Bello’s belief in the current administration’s performance, stating that the Tinubu-led government has done “exceedingly well despite global challenges” and deserves continued support from patriotic Nigerians.
The statement concluded by urging Nigerians to remain vigilant against propaganda and to support efforts aimed at fostering national unity rather than sowing discord.
