2027: Sell Tinubu’s Record, Your Achievements Instead of Fighting Obi, Soludo Told
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, an Anambra businessman, Chief Izuorah Nnamdi Iloma Anichebe, has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to shift his political messaging towards his administration’s achievements and the policies of President Bola Tinubu rather than engaging in repeated exchanges with former governor Peter Obi.
Anichebe, Managing Director of Lomat Global Resources Limited and popularly known as Mayor of Afrika, made the call in an open letter to the Anambra governor amid the continuing political debate involving Soludo and Obi.
The businessman acknowledged Soludo’s right to support any presidential candidate or political project but argued that the governor’s declared support for Tinubu should be accompanied by a sustained effort to explain the President’s policies and achievements to voters.
According to him, if Soludo believes Tinubu deserves another term, the governor should make that case by highlighting measurable outcomes in areas such as the economy, infrastructure, investment and security.
He argued that repeatedly making Obi the subject of political confrontation could have the unintended consequence of keeping the former Anambra governor at the centre of national political discussion.
Obi, who previously governed Anambra State, remains an opposition presidential figure ahead of the 2027 election, while Soludo has publicly aligned himself with Tinubu.
Anichebe maintained that the competing political positions provide both camps with an opportunity to present their respective records and ideas directly to Nigerians.
He also urged Soludo to allow his own performance in Anambra to form a major part of his political message.
According to the businessman, the governor has an opportunity to explain what his administration has achieved and articulate his vision for Anambra and the wider South-East without making his predecessor the primary focus.
The intervention comes amid a renewed disagreement over the financial position of Anambra State during Obi’s tenure.
The Soludo administration recently released records which it said showed that external loans associated with Obi’s period in office remained outstanding, alongside claims involving inherited salary, pension and gratuity obligations.
The state government said eight external borrowings connected to Obi’s administration had an outstanding balance of about ₦127.4 billion as of June 30, 2026.
It also maintained that the current government continues to service some inherited obligations.
Obi and his supporters have challenged aspects of that account, including the interpretation of the debts and the period during which some development facilities were eventually drawn down.
The disagreement has consequently developed beyond public finance into a wider political argument over the records of successive Anambra administrations.
Anichebe, however, urged Soludo to redirect the conversation towards governance and the political choices facing Nigerians in 2027.
He argued that if the objective is to persuade voters in the South-East to support Tinubu, the strongest approach would be to explain the President’s record and why his policies deserve continued support.
The businessman similarly maintained that Soludo’s political legacy should ultimately be assessed on the policies, projects and development outcomes recorded under his administration.
His intervention adds another dimension to the increasingly intense political debate in Anambra, where the records of past and present administrations have become part of the wider conversation surrounding the 2027 presidential election.
With Obi pursuing a national political project and Soludo backing Tinubu, attention is likely to remain on how both camps present their records, policies and competing visions to voters as the election approaches.
