Proposed N83. 5bn loan: Dapo Abiodun planning to put Ogun in generational debt, NNPP accuses

The New Nigeria People’s Party has raised alarm that the Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun is planning to put the state for sale with the alleged way he is borrowing money.

The state chairman of NNPP, Olaposi Oginni in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta accused the Governor of allegedly planning to embezzle the loan if granted.

It would be recalled that the governor while hosting members of the Fiscal Efficiency and Budget Committee of RMFAC led by its chairman, Adamu Dibal solicited for N83.5bn loan from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, (RAMFAC) so as to complete ongoing agro-cargo airport, among other projects.

The loan was reportedly a 1.68% Development of Natural Resources Fund (DNRF) of the RAMFAC

Gov. Abiodun explained that the loan would also be expended to boost agriculture, tourism and other sectors of the state’s economy.

But, Oginni in a reaction on Wednesday said the new loan the governor is allegedly planning to put the unborn generation in debt.

The NNPP Chairman insisted that the loan is not meant for infrastructural development as claimed by the governor.

Oginni claimed the governor is allegedly planning to embezzle the loan since he know he cannot win a second term bid.

He added, “why will a governor be concern about airport when you cannot provide good road for your people.

“There is nothing in the airport, the truth is that he will not be able to complete the airport.

“He is not doing anything, he is looking for money to steal. He want to borrow to sleep, not for any infrastructure.”

Oginni however said it is time the residents of the state rise against a generation debt the government is allegedly planning to incur on them.

He noted that there is a need for the residents in the state to have referendums against the proposed loan.

He further urged the State Assembly to kick against the plan to borrow.

He added, “All Ogun state must rise up and say no to this kind of request. Enough is enough.

“He is not for infrastructural development, they are looking for money that they can borrow and steal because he already know he can not win the next election.

“He want to put Ogun state for sale, collect the money and run away. The generation to come will be the one to pay the price.

“There must be a referendum that all Ogun state lovers must go against this plan.”
