Oyo APC berates Makinde’s govt over insecurity, infrastructural deficits in the state

Seyi Makinde

The Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress has said the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has performed abysmally low in terms of provision of adequate security and infrastructural development in the State.

The opposition party, in a statement on Thursday by its Caretaker Publicity Secretary, AbdulAzeez Olatunde, said Makinde had performed far below expectation despite spending 31 months in the saddle as the governor of the state.

The statement read in part, “The government of Seyi Makinde claimed to have procured fire fighting vehicles from Turkey for about one year without functioning.

“The Ajumose buses in the state are due for replacement; Governor Seyi Makinde claimed to have procured some, which are only seen when his party, the PDP, has assignments outside Oyo State.

“The past government provided solar powered street lights, while GSM chose the ‘incorruptible’ way of replacing them with diesel powered street lights.

“If there is one sector the people of Oyo State are anxiously praying for the fast-tracking of the terminal date of this government, it is security. Governor Makinde chose to celebrate his birthday in Saki, Oke Ogun, what followed was mayhem – maiming and killings.

“Can the people of Oyo State forget the wanton overnight destruction of Igangan town in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State on the dawn of June 6, 2021? Governor Seyi Makinde assured Igangan residents that such an attack would never happen again, but it recurred within 10 days on June 16, 2021, as if daring Makinde’s lack of resourcefulness.”

However, the Oyo Kajola Group, in a statement by its Media Coordinator, Adebayo Ayandele, described the statement by the APC as “farcical, unfounded and untrue.”

The group said the APC in the state had demonstrated by the statement that it could not be cured of its post-2019 election loss syndrome.

The group said, “The APC has been aimlessly striving to feed the public with lies, while presenting itself as a party of blind and bad losers, who do not want anything good for Oyo State.

“The 31 months of Governor Makinde’s governance in Oyo State have exposed the underbelly of the corrupt and nefarious government run by the APC in eight years, as a sector by sector analysis of the achievements of the Makinde government placed side-by-side with the APC government will show how wicked and ungodly the latter was.

“In just 31 months, it is on record that the Makinde government started and completed the 65-kilometre Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road, which was inaugurated in June. Several APC leaders, including Prof Adeolu Akande, the NCC Chairman; Hon Shina Peller, House of Representatives member; and Mr Wasiu Dauda, a former Commissioner for Works, regularly ply that road.

“We dare the APC to show the world any evidence to prove that the Makinde administration was not the one that reconstructed that major road. They should also tell the world any inter-town road started or completed by the Ajimobi government in eight years.

“In just 12 months, the 9.7-kilometre Saki township road abandoned by the APC government since 2016 has been completed by the Makinde government, with an extension of over one kilometre already approved by the government.”
