Osoba Raises Alarm Over Alleged Southern Coalition Against Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Poll
Elder statesman and former Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, has alleged that political forces in Southern Nigeria are mobilising to weaken President Bola Tinubu’s influence ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Osoba claimed that plans are underway to present multiple presidential candidates from the South in a strategy aimed at dividing regional votes and reducing Tinubu’s electoral advantage.
The former governor made the remarks in Abeokuta during the announcement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary results in Ogun State, where Tinubu secured a landslide victory across the 20 local government areas.
According to the results announced by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, President Tinubu polled 322,485 votes, while his challenger, Stanley Osifo, recorded zero votes.
Osoba warned APC members against complacency, insisting that the ruling party still faces serious political threats despite growing confidence among supporters.
“The enemies are many,” the APC chieftain said while urging party loyalists to prepare fully for the 2027 election battle.
He specifically mentioned former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and former President Goodluck Jonathan as political figures whose possible ambitions could contribute to splitting Southern votes.
Osoba alleged that the emergence of several influential Southern politicians could create a major political challenge for Tinubu if APC members fail to remain united and politically active.
“As we approach the next election, there is a strong gang-up against us. They are plotting to field several candidates from our region in the South,” Osoba stated during his address to party supporters.
He further appealed to APC stakeholders in Ogun State to reward Tinubu’s support for the state by ensuring massive voter mobilisation and strong grassroots participation during the next election cycle.
The event was attended by top APC leaders, including Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare Dr. Iziak Salako, Senator Solomon Adeola, Senator Shuaib Salisu, and Ogun APC Chairman Yemi Sanusi.
Political analysts believe the comments reflect rising political tensions ahead of 2027, as parties and influential figures begin early calculations and strategic alignments for the next presidential race.
Observers also note that discussions around coalition building, regional alliances, and opposition realignments are expected to intensify as Nigeria gradually moves closer to another major electoral season.
