David Mark Hails ADC Primary, Says Democracy Is Alive in Nigeria
Former Senate President David Mark has described the recent primary election conducted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a strong indication that democracy is still active and functional in Nigeria.
Mark made the remark while reacting to the outcome of the party’s primary exercise, praising members and stakeholders for conducting themselves peacefully and transparently throughout the process.
According to him, the conduct of the primary demonstrated that Nigerians still believe in democratic values, fairness, and the power of the ballot. He noted that the orderly exercise reflected the growing maturity of political participation within the country’s democratic system.
The former Senate President commended party officials, delegates, and aspirants for embracing unity and discipline before, during, and after the exercise. He added that internal democracy remains a critical pillar for strengthening political institutions and sustaining national development.
David Mark further urged political actors across the country to place national interest above personal ambition, stressing that peaceful primaries and transparent electoral processes are necessary for building public trust in governance.
He also encouraged Nigerian youths and citizens to remain actively involved in politics and democratic activities, saying their participation is essential to shaping the nation’s future.
The ADC primary has continued to attract reactions from political observers, many of whom described the process as peaceful and organized compared to the internal crises often witnessed in some political parties.
Political analysts say transparent party primaries are important in deepening democracy and ensuring credible leadership selection ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
