Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa Directs Political Appointees Eyeing 2027 Elections to Resign by March 31
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ordered all political appointees planning to contest in the 2027 general elections to submit their resignations on or before March 31, 2026, as part of preparations for the upcoming electoral cycle.
The directive was issued through an advisory signed by the state’s Attorney‑General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo. It applies to all political aides, including Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs), who wish to pursue elective offices next year.
The advisory, titled “Resignation Requirements for Civil Servants and Political Appointees Intending to Contest the 2027 General Elections,” outlines the conditions under which public officers seeking elective positions must step down from their current roles. Appointees are required to submit formal resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government by the specified deadline.
The move follows a recent shake‑up in the governor’s political team, which included the dismissal of all political aides in a sweeping effort to improve administrative efficiency. Observers say the resignation directive is consistent with similar actions in other states, where leaders seek to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act ahead of the next general elections, avoid conflicts of interest, and create a level playing field for aspirants.
The deadline for resignations is fast approaching, and political analysts believe the directive may trigger a fresh round of strategic realignments within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other parties, as political actors position themselves for the 2027 elections.
