The media office of Hon. Biodun Omoleye, Member representing Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II, has strongly rejected a recent performance rating that ranked the lawmaker poorly, describing it as a “deliberate misrepresentation of facts” and a politically motivated attempt to discredit his achievements.
In a statement issued Tuesday, July 2, 2025, the media team faulted a report published by an online blog citing an alleged performance assessment by the Justice Development and Peace Initiative (JDPI), Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council.
“This report is not only misleading but an insult to responsible journalism,” the statement read. “Omoleye’s performance in legislative duties, infrastructure, empowerment, and grassroots engagement is open, visible, and verifiable.”
The team questioned the credibility of the assessment, criticizing the inclusion of a traditional ruler not from Omoleye’s constituency and lambasted the NUJ for participating despite covering many of the lawmaker’s activities.
Contrary to the report, Omoleye has reportedly held numerous stakeholder meetings with traditional rulers, youth, women, and religious leaders across the three LGAs in his constituency. The media office further stated that the lawmaker maintains active engagement with constituents via social media, community consultations, and constituency tours.
On empowerment, the statement listed a wide range of inclusive initiatives—training women in Adire production, ICT seminars for youths, tools for artisans and farmers, support for persons with disabilities, and the provision of materials to the School for the Deaf in Ikoro-Ekiti. Omoleye also initiated a landmark 100-day empowerment programme—an effort unmatched by any other National Assembly member from Ekiti.
Legislatively, Omoleye sponsored a bill for the establishment of a Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery in Ijero-Ekiti and moved a key motion calling for a national disaster insurance scheme.
His infrastructural interventions include:
-
Solar-powered street lights in over 10 communities including Efon-Alaaye, Okemesi, Ipoti-Ekiti, Ejiyan, and Ijero township.
-
33,000 KVA transformer in Efon-Alaaye.
-
6-classroom block at Community Grammar School, Ipole-Iloro.
-
Laptops distributed to all LGAs and LCDAs in his constituency.
Plans are underway to rehabilitate rural roads, support market women, and offer bursaries to over 1,000 students in tertiary institutions.
The media office criticized both the Catholic Diocese and NUJ for “descending into partisan politics” and urged media practitioners to uphold professionalism.
“Hon. Omoleye remains focused on delivering dividends of democracy. His track record is not just documented—it is felt in every community he represents. No report can erase that,” the statement concluded.
