Ogun Caretaker Chairman Cries Out Over Failure Of Yewa Residents To Obey Government Directives On Covid-19.
The transition Chairman, Yewa South Local Government, Mr. Fagbenro Olabode has said that the residents of Yewa South Local Government are not obeying state government directives on Covid-19 pamdemic.
He also described them as sturbbon and illiterates.
The local government boss who was represented by Alhaji Soyemi Olasunkanmi disclosed this when he recieved the Chairman of the Organised Labour-Civil Society in Ogun State Comrade Emmanuel Bankole and his team on a tour of sensitisation exercise on Covid-19 in the LG on Wednesday.
He said “initially the Chairman and some Political leaders came out with their vehicles to announce in this market publicly that everybody should be using face masks, washing of hands and keeping safe distance.
“We are promising you now that things will change , I will tell the chairman and we will see something to do about it. So that our people in the market will comply to the regulations of the government.
Meanwhile, the State Chairperson of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives(NANNM), Comrade (Nurse) Roseline Solarin said It’s really disheartening to see how people are not complying to all the regulations given by the government, saying that the cost of prevention is lower than that of treatment.
” This time around we are talking of health, if we are not careful we are going to loose a lot of people as a result of this Covid-19.
” I want to charge the government to do more about this . When there are laws formulated, there must be some group of people that will do monitoring and enforcement on our people.
“We cannot really blame our people because of bad governance that they have seen in the past. That is exactly what is making many of them not to have confidence in the government of the day but I want to say that Nigerians really need to change when it comes to things like this. The rate at which it is spreading, we are now having more of Community transmission , many are not showing symptoms but infecting others.
“The government really need to come out to ensure that this issue of hand washing , face mask is really enforced so that it will reduce the number at which people are contacting this illness day by day.” She said.
The NLC Chairman Yewa South Local Government Comrade Aninku Adebiyi further reteraited that the monitoring team has been replicated in the local government and will further carry out in Owode and Sabo market for monitoring and to ensure that the local government maintains its covid-19 free status.
In his words “we plan to go to owode market, Sabo market anytime from next week so as to sensitize them about the Covid -19 Pandemic. We plan in our committee to produce more of this facemask to give to people in the market.
Also the Iyaloja of Sayedero Market Ilaro Chief (Mrs) Bola Idowu while appreciating the state government on the easing of the lockdown to cushion the effect of the dreaded coronavirus on the citizenry, stated that the people in the market are very stubborn.
“The office of an illiterate is difficult to control. The leadership of the markets will endeavour to intensify more efforts on stricts compliance at the markets.
“We will like to thank you for coming to our market, to sensitise our people on the importance of using facemasks, washing of hands and other health protocols set by the state government”
“We believe that by your coming, our people will also know the importance and ensure that they comply because we don’t want our markets to be closed again” she said.
