OGD: A Phenomenon Worth Returning to the Senate – Banji Fuyi-Williams
Yesterday was a memorable and golden day for Banji Fuyi-Williams of Lukogbe/Ilusin Ward (4), as he had the distinct privilege of meeting a man he describes as “a phenomenon”—Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District.
According to Fuyi-Williams, the meeting took place at the invitation of Hon. Musa Morouf during a gathering of the OGD Gateway Movement Group, Ogun Waterside Local Government Chapter.
Reflecting on the encounter, he expressed deep admiration for Otunba Daniel, noting that although he was already grateful for the contributions made by the former governor to Ogun Waterside during his time in office, his admiration has grown immensely due to the Senator’s current role and achievements in the National Assembly.
Fuyi-Williams highlighted some of Senator Daniel’s outstanding efforts and legislative contributions, particularly those that directly impact Ogun Waterside:
1. Establishment of Nigerian Navy Base: Ongoing plans to site a naval base and barracks in Abigi and Ode Omi.
2. Upgrade of GIPI Oni: Sponsorship of a bill in 2024 to transform the Gateway Industrial and Petro-Gas Institute (GIPI), Oni, into a Federal Industrial and Petro-Gas University.
3. Ijebu State Creation Bill: Presentation of a constitutional amendment bill in 2024 for the creation of Ijebu State.
4. South West Development Commission Bill: Sponsorship of this crucial bill in 2023, now signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“These four laudable accomplishments,” Fuyi-Williams noted, “are directly beneficial to the development and economic upliftment of Ogun Waterside Local Government.”
He therefore made a passionate appeal to all political stakeholders and constituents of Ogun Waterside to unite in support of Senator Daniel’s re-election bid in 2027. According to him, returning Otunba Daniel to the Senate is essential for the following reasons:
To Complete Ongoing Projects: Including the naval base and the full transformation of GIPI Oni into a federal university, both of which will significantly enhance local economic activities and boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Support for Ijebu State Creation: Continued advocacy for this long-anticipated project.
National Influence: Leveraging his position to support presidential initiatives in the National Assembly.
Appreciation for TASUED Upgrade: Acknowledging his role in the upgrade of TASUED into a federal institution.
Senate Ranking Advantage: Re-electing him will make him a ranking senator, thereby attracting larger constituency project funding for the benefit of the senatorial district.
In conclusion, Fuyi-Williams urged all well-meaning citizens of Ogun Waterside to ensure that Otunba Gbenga Daniel is returned to the Senate in 2027 for the continued progress of the people and the local government.
