NDIC to Host 2026 IADI Africa Regional Meeting in Abuja
The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation will host the 2026 Annual Meeting and Workshop of the International Association of Deposit Insurers Africa Regional Committee in Abuja from July 20 to 23, 2026.
The four-day high-level event, themed “Safeguarding Stability: Public Awareness and Crisis Readiness for a Stronger Future,” will bring together chief executives, directors and senior officials of deposit insurance institutions, financial regulators and other stakeholders within the financial safety-net system across Africa and beyond.
According to the NDIC, participants will examine strategies for improving public awareness and strengthening crisis preparedness within deposit insurance systems, in line with the revised IADI Core Principles.
Discussions will focus on building and sustaining depositors’ confidence, strengthening communication, improving coordination among financial safety-net participants and providing deposit insurers with practical tools for crisis management and resolution.
The workshop will also provide a platform for peer learning, experience-sharing and discussions on emerging risks, including financial technology innovations and cyber threats.
Participants are expected to explore ways of strengthening institutional frameworks for effective crisis prevention, management and response.
The programme will feature technical committee meetings, plenary sessions and interactive roundtable discussions on public awareness during normal and crisis periods, crisis preparedness, system-wide response operations and simulation exercises designed to test institutional readiness.
The event is expected to be declared open by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Olayemi Cardoso.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, is also expected to deliver the keynote address.
Other dignitaries expected at the meeting include the IADI Secretary-General, Ms Eva Hüpkes, and the Chairperson of the IADI Africa Regional Committee, Ms Julia Oyet.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the NDIC, Mr Thompson Oludare Sunday, will serve as the chief host of the conference.
The NDIC said the meeting would strengthen regional cooperation among deposit insurers and improve Africa’s capacity to respond effectively to financial-sector crises.
The statement was signed by the Head of the NDIC Communication and Public Affairs Department, Hawwau Gambo.
