Mary Habila Not a Registered Physiotherapist, Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy Clarifies
The Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) has clarified that Mary Habila was not a registered physiotherapist, urging the public to verify professional credentials before attributing medical qualifications to individuals.
In a statement, the professional body said its records showed that Habila was not licensed or registered to practise physiotherapy in Nigeria, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.
The NSP explained that only individuals who have completed the required professional training, fulfilled all regulatory requirements and are duly licensed are recognised as registered physiotherapists in the country.
According to the society, protecting the integrity of the physiotherapy profession is essential to ensuring quality healthcare delivery and safeguarding the public from misinformation.
The organisation urged employers, healthcare institutions and members of the public to always verify the registration status of anyone claiming to be a physiotherapist through the appropriate regulatory and professional bodies.
The society stressed that misrepresenting professional qualifications undermines public confidence in the healthcare system and could expose patients to unnecessary risks.
It reaffirmed its commitment to promoting professionalism, ethical practice and accountability within the physiotherapy profession while working closely with relevant authorities to uphold established standards.
The NSP also encouraged Nigerians to seek physiotherapy services only from qualified and duly registered practitioners to ensure safe and effective treatment.
