Joint Security Operation Successfully Rescues Kidnapped Naval Officer and Civilians in Abuja
A joint Security operation by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and the military has successfully rescued Lt. Cynthia Akor, a naval officer, along with two civilians, who were abducted from Mpape, Abuja, on March 21, 2025. The victims were taken during a violent attack by armed assailants who blocked Mpape Road, opened fire on passing vehicles, and abducted the victims.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦500 million for Lt. Akor and ₦200 million each for the two civilians, contacting their families shortly after the abduction. According to FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the coordinated rescue operation began after a distress call was received.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Isyaku Sharu, in collaboration with military authorities, organized the joint operation, which included personnel from the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local hunters. The operation covered areas such as Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, Yelwa Hills, and parts of Nasarawa State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the security forces tracked the suspects to a Fulani resettlement in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills between 2 am and 5:30 am on March 23, 2025. Four suspects were arrested, and the victims were rescued unharmed. The security team also recovered ₦3.2 million, believed to be ransom money from previous kidnappings.
The rescued victims are currently receiving medical care at the Nigerian Army Clinic and are reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and have bolstered security in Mpape and surrounding areas to prevent further incidents.
The public has been assured that they can go about their daily activities safely, with additional security measures now in place to ensure peace in the area.
