Emefiele: Interpol to place CBN Staff, 2 Others on watchlist for forging Buhari’s signature to steal $6.2m from CBN
The Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu to investigate the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has requested the interpol to place three Nigerians on watchlist for allegedly conniving with the former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele to steal $6.2m from CBN.
The three suspects: Odoh Eric Ocheme, a staff of CBN and two others – Adamu Abubakar and Imam Abubakar, were accused of forging the signature of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and documents purportedly written by ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, to authorize the payment of $6.2m from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The suspects were said to have also forged an Identity Card in the name of Jibril Abubakar portraying him as a staff of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and a Letter dated 23 January, 2023 purportedly written by Muhammad Buhari to Boss Mustapha.
Also forged by the suspects were another Letter dated 26 January, 2023 purportedly written by Boss Mustapha to Godwin Emefiele, and a Central Bank of Nigeria Internal Memo dated 31 January, 2023 purportedly written by the Director, Banking Services Department to the Governor.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha on Tuesday while testifying in the trial of former CBN Governor, Emefiele, disclosed that the signature of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari was forged to pave way for the withdrewal of $6,230,000 from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on February 8, 2023.
Mustapha also told the court that his signature was also forged, pointing out that he knew nothing about the money reported to have been withdrawn for the payment of foreign election observers.
