Edun, Dangiwa Resign — Not Sacked, Presidency Clarifies
Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, have resigned from their positions in the Federal Executive Council.
The presidency clarified that both officials voluntarily stepped down and were not sacked.
Edun tendered his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing health concerns. The economist, who recently turned 70, submitted his resignation letter on his birthday, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the administration.
In his letter, Edun described his time in office as a privilege and commended the government’s economic direction, noting that Nigeria has become more resilient and globally respected.
Before the official announcement of his exit, Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where he held a closed-door meeting before proceeding to focus on private engagements.
Similarly, Dangiwa resigned from his role as Housing Minister, thanking the President for the opportunity to serve. His tenure followed years of experience in public service, including his previous role as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank and Secretary to the Katsina State Government.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to both former ministers for their contributions to the administration’s economic and housing reforms, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
Meanwhile, the President has appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance, tasking him with consolidating ongoing fiscal reforms and advancing the government’s economic agenda.
In the housing sector, Tinubu is expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma to the Senate for confirmation as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
