Group Dismisses Fresh Allegations Against Alao-Akala as False, Malicious
A civic group in Ogbomoso has strongly condemned recent claims circulating online about how former Oyo State governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, allegedly acquired 7,000 acres of land in Ibadan, describing the reports as false, malicious, and politically motivated.
Speaking on behalf of the group, President of Democracy Voice of Ogbomoso, Ademola Akanji, questioned the timing of the allegations, noting that they surfaced years after the late politician’s death. He suggested that such claims were part of a deliberate attempt to tarnish the legacy of a man widely regarded as a grassroots leader.
Akanji maintained that those behind the reports were engaging in “cheap blackmail” aimed at discrediting the former governor and undermining his enduring influence in Oyo State politics. He insisted that Alao-Akala’s contributions to governance and development in the state remain visible and continue to speak for him.
Describing the late governor as a man of the people, Akanji said he never discriminated against individuals based on their background and was known for his generosity and inclusiveness.
He further alleged that the renewed smear campaign could be linked to political interests, particularly attempts to weaken the chances of his son’s re-election bid to the House of Representatives. According to him, such tactics would ultimately fail.
The group also raised concerns over what it described as a growing trend of misinformation, including the circulation of a purported “asset list” of the former governor, which it dismissed as fabricated.
Akanji called on the public to disregard the claims and urged political actors to focus on issue-based engagement rather than character attacks.
