The Nigerian Navy has arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Anambra State and handed him over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The suspect was apprehended during a security operation carried out by naval personnel as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities within the state.
According to the Navy, preliminary investigations linked the suspect to the illegal movement and distribution of prohibited substances, prompting his immediate arrest.
Following the operation, the suspect was transferred to the NDLEA alongside exhibits recovered during the arrest to enable a comprehensive investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.
Naval authorities reiterated their commitment to working closely with other security and law enforcement agencies to curb the trafficking of illicit drugs and dismantle criminal networks operating across the country.
The Navy noted that the collaboration with the NDLEA forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen internal security, reduce the circulation of dangerous narcotics and protect communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The NDLEA is expected to continue investigations to determine the full extent of the suspect’s activities and identify other individuals who may be connected to the alleged drug trafficking operation.
