Alaafin Demands Stronger Security Intelligence After Deadly Attack on Oyo School
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has called on the Federal Government to urgently strengthen Nigeria’s intelligence gathering and security surveillance system following the recent attack on a school in Oyo State.
The respected monarch expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity affecting educational institutions and communities across the country, stressing that proactive intelligence operations remain critical to preventing future attacks and protecting lives.
Reacting to the tragic incident, the Alaafin condemned the attack and described the situation as disturbing and unacceptable, especially in an environment meant for learning and safety. He emphasized that schools should never become targets of violence or criminal activities.
According to the monarch, Nigeria’s security agencies must move beyond reactive responses and focus more on intelligence-driven operations capable of detecting threats before attacks occur. He noted that improved collaboration between local communities, traditional rulers, and security agencies would significantly strengthen the fight against insecurity.
The Alaafin also urged government authorities to invest more in modern security technology, local intelligence networks, and early warning systems to address rising security challenges nationwide.
He further appealed to parents, community leaders, and educational authorities to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements around schools and public facilities.
The attack has triggered fresh concerns among residents and education stakeholders over the safety of students and teachers in parts of the country where insecurity continues to threaten normal academic activities.
Security experts have repeatedly argued that poor intelligence coordination, delayed response mechanisms, and inadequate surveillance systems remain major challenges confronting Nigeria’s security architecture.
Observers believe the Alaafin’s intervention reflects growing pressure on the Federal Government to adopt stronger preventive security measures amid rising concerns over attacks targeting vulnerable institutions.
