2027 Rivers Governorship: Political Tension Returns as Wike, Fubara Allies Begin Mobilisation
Political tension is gradually resurfacing in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 governorship election as loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and allies of Governor Siminalayi Fubara intensify political consultations and move to secure governorship nomination forms within their respective parties.
The renewed political realignment is reportedly threatening the fragile peace agreement earlier brokered to ease the prolonged rift between both camps after months of political uncertainty in Rivers State.
Sources within the political structure disclosed that key loyalists linked to Wike’s political camp have already begun positioning themselves for the 2027 governorship contest, while supporters of Governor Fubara are also strategising to maintain political relevance and influence ahead of the elections.
Reports indicated that Alabo Dakorinama George-Kelly, believed to be a strong ally of Wike, has emerged as a major aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Hon. Kingsley Chinda is reportedly being positioned within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure.
Political observers in the state believe the latest development signals a possible return to intense political rivalry between the camps of Wike and Fubara despite earlier reconciliation efforts facilitated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The renewed political calculations have also sparked concerns among stakeholders who fear that the lingering power struggle could deepen divisions within Rivers politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
