Tinubu’s Policies Driving Opposition Alliance, Says Dele Momodu
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is indirectly responsible for the growing alliance between opposition figures Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a television interview, Momodu argued that the emerging cooperation among opposition leaders is not necessarily based on long-term political alignment, but rather a response to the current political climate. He noted that the environment shaped by the present administration has compelled key opposition figures to reconsider their individual ambitions and explore collaboration.
According to him, the unity being observed within opposition circles appears to be more reactive than ideological. He cautioned that such alliances may struggle to endure if they are not built on shared vision, trust, and clearly defined objectives.
Recent political developments have seen increased consultations and realignments among opposition leaders as they position themselves ahead of the next presidential election cycle. Observers believe these moves signal a more competitive political landscape, where alliances could significantly influence electoral outcomes.
Momodu’s remarks highlight the shifting dynamics of Nigeria’s political space, where actions by the ruling government can shape opposition strategies. As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, the durability of any coalition will depend on unity, structure, and strategic direction.
