PDP Crisis Deepens as Chieftain Says Wike’s Influence Weakens Opposition to Tinubu
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has warned that the party may struggle to effectively challenge President Bola Tinubu if the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, continues to wield significant influence within the opposition party.
Ulasi expressed concern over the internal dynamics of the PDP, noting that Wike’s political posture could undermine the party’s credibility as a strong opposition force. He argued that the PDP cannot present a united and formidable front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while a prominent figure seen as aligning with the current administration remains influential in its structure.
His remarks come amid persistent internal divisions within the PDP, which have continued to raise questions about the party’s cohesion and readiness for future elections. Political observers believe that unresolved leadership disputes and conflicting interests could weaken the party’s chances in upcoming electoral contests.
The development underscores growing concerns over the PDP’s leadership direction and internal unity as Nigeria gradually approaches another election cycle. Analysts suggest that the party must resolve its internal crisis and redefine its strategy to position itself as a credible alternative to President Tinubu’s administration.
