2027 Shift: Hayatu-Deen Quits PDP, Joins ADC Over Rising Insecurity, Economic Strain

A former presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing deepening national challenges and the urgent need for a credible political alternative.
Announcing his decision, Hayatu-Deen pointed to worsening insecurity, escalating cost of living, and what he described as a shrinking democratic space as key reasons behind his exit from the PDP.
He explained that his move reflects a broader concern shared by many Nigerians who are increasingly dissatisfied with the country’s current direction and are seeking leadership capable of delivering stability, economic recovery, and inclusive governance.
Hayatu-Deen recalled that his initial entry into politics in 2022 was driven by optimism about strengthening democracy and contributing to national development. However, he noted that those expectations have since given way to disappointment amid what he views as declining governance standards and limited opportunities for meaningful political participation.
He also warned that democratic institutions are under growing pressure, stressing that Nigerians deserve a system that allows for genuine competition, accountability, and effective leadership.
The former banker and economist pledged to play an active role within the ADC, expressing confidence that the party can provide a viable platform for change ahead of the 2027 general elections.
