ADC Crisis Deepens as Ukandu Insists Nafiu Bala Personally Signed Resignation

Fresh controversy has erupted within the African Democratic Congress following conflicting claims over the alleged resignation of Nafiu Bala.
A senior party figure, Nkem Ukandu, has insisted that Bala personally signed his resignation letter in his presence, strongly rejecting allegations that the document was forged.
Speaking during a media interaction, Ukandu maintained that there was clear evidence to support his claim, noting that he directly handed the resignation letter to Bala, who then signed it without any form of coercion or interference.
He dismissed claims of forgery as baseless, arguing that party records, including signed documents and attendance registers from meetings, corroborate the authenticity of the resignation. According to him, any concerns raised should focus on the circumstances surrounding the decision, not a denial of the signature itself.
The disagreement forms part of a wider internal crisis within the party, marked by factional tensions and competing narratives over leadership and legitimacy.
Ukandu, however, downplayed the division, expressing confidence that the party remains intact despite disagreements among some members. He also defended the emergence of David Mark as a key figure in the party’s leadership structure, stating that due process was followed with appropriate institutional backing, including oversight by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He further alleged that external political interests may be attempting to exploit the situation to weaken the party ahead of future elections, but reaffirmed that the ADC would overcome its internal challenges and remain a viable opposition force.
