Omotola Calls for Brave, Selfless Leadership to Fix Nigeria
Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has urged Nigerians to demand a new kind of leadership anchored on courage, sacrifice, and genuine commitment to national development.
Speaking during a recent public engagement, Omotola said Nigeria’s persistent challenges are largely the result of poor leadership, insisting that ordinary citizens are not responsible for the country’s problems. According to her, meaningful progress will only be achieved when leaders are willing to put the nation above personal comfort, fear, and material gain.
She explained that her statement about leaders being ready to “die for Nigeria” should not be interpreted literally, but as a call for bold, principled, and fearless leadership driven by integrity and service.
Omotola also condemned the culture of blaming Nigerians for the country’s woes, stressing that discipline, accountability, and rule of law must start from the top. She described Nigeria as a nation richly endowed with human and natural resources, capable of greatness if properly led.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the actress warned against tribalism and ethnic division, describing them as major obstacles to national unity and development. She recalled a past personal experience where ethnic bias allegedly affected the electoral process at her polling unit, noting that such practices undermine democracy and fuel resentment.
Highlighting her belief in a united Nigeria, Omotola pointed to her diverse background and experiences across different regions of the country, saying unity remains the nation’s greatest strength.
She concluded by praising the entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerians, especially in commercial hubs, and expressed confidence that with visionary leadership and unity, Nigeria can rise to become a globally competitive nation.
