Zamfara : APC faction condemns attack on PDP congress
The All progressives Congress faction loyal to Senator Kabiru Marafa in Zamfara state has condemned the Monday attack on the Peoples Democratic Party congress in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The party also denied involvement in the incident in which several vehicles and voting materials were destroyed.
This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Marafa-led APC in the state, Bello Maradun, titled, ‘Marafa’s APC faction condemns attack on PDP in Gusau, Zamfara.’
It said, “The Kabiru Marafa-led faction of APC under the leadership of its Chairman, Sirajo Maikatako, received with shock the news of violence meted on opposition PDP during the Party’s congress in Gusau, the capital city of Zamfara State, on December 27, 2021.
“We are more worried that official statements attributed to the spokesperson to the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State who is one of the leading figures of PDP in the state associated the action with the ruling APC in the state.”
According to Maradun, although an earlier statement accused thugs allegedly mobilised by Governor Bello Matawalle’s camp of the APC, the Marafa faction distanced itself from “this undemocratic act against opposition groups. It is on record that Kabiru Marafa is an advocate of rule of law and the principle of ‘live and let others live’ from the testimonies of his uncountable public engagements as a Senator of the Republic of Nigeria and the leading figure of APC in Zamfara State.
“On this note, the leadership of Marafa faction of APC condemns in totality the reported action against opposition PDP in the state and consider the action as barbaric, savage, desperate and primitive.”
The faction also called on the leadership of the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and make the perpetrators and their sponsors face appropriate wrath of the law.
It also called on the police to be on red alert to avoid the reoccurrence of such “cowardly act of desperate politicians without fear or favour.”
