According to Oladele, the Command had also deployed 35 patrol vehicles, four life-support ambulances, five patrol motorbikes and heavy-duty toll trucks to the highways.

The FRSC boss said the deployment, followed a directive from the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi that “all State Corps Commanders should close their offices and move to the highways with their men to ensure the safety of  road users during the Yuletide season”.

Oladele disclosed that the Yuletide operation which had already started in all the States of the Federal would continue till January 2020.

He said, “We have received directives from our National Headquarters that from Saturday, December 15, we should close our offices and move to the highways and we will be there till January 2020 just to make sure that those that are travelling home, they go home safely and come back safely.”

“The whole essence is to prevent road traffic crashes but when it happens, then we mobile our our men for rescue operations to ensure that they carry out a robust rescue of anybody that is involved in road traffic crashes because we can’t stop it and people must not die on the highways.”

“We have already mobilised 1,700 officers, including Special Marshals in Ogun State. And we are supporting them with 35 patrol vehicles, four life-support ambulances, five patrol motorbikes and heavy-duty toll trucks just to ensure that everybody that is travelling we will guarantee their safety and even when there is a gridlock when they are stuck on the highways we will free the obstructions and people can still travel safely.”

“The measures we are putting in place are multi-faceted. We are looking at it holistically, we started with what the FRSC is supposed to do which is education. To enlighten members of the public so that they will not misbehave any time they use the highways.”

“We have been going round to educate the people, we are having meetings with several people, associations and group of individuals.”

“Last week we held the flag off of our Ember months campaign. The whole essence is to make the message of FRSC to reach the people. And after the enlightenment campaigns, we are going into enforcement”, Oladele added.

Speaking on the workshop, he said “FRSC is a learning organisation and for you to learn we’ll, you must look at your processes, that is why the Corps Marshal has directed that we should do this training.”

“It is expected that after the training, they would have been more equipped to position the FRSC to face the challenges of what the future holds for us. The key is just to make our highways to be very safe for everybody.”

The National Coordinator, Special Marshal, Dr. Sini Titsi Kwabe in his remark, said the workshop was organised to train his men on how they can improve on their productivity to safe lives on the roads.

Kwabe said, “Special Marshals are discipline Nigerians, they are men and women of proven integrity who have taken it upon themselves to save lives by complementing the efforts of the FRSC.”
