Why I hacked my 50-year-old neighbour to death, suspect
A 27-year-old man, Ejike Okata has revealed that he hacked his 50-year-old neighbour to death with a machete because she accused her of stealing a mobile phone.
Okata, who was on Sunday arrested by the men of the Ogun State Police Command the deceased provoked her by calling him a thief.
The suspect who hails from Onueke in Eza South Local government area of Ebonyi State was said to have hacked the deceased to death over a minor argument.
A statement by the Command’s Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi in Abeokuta on Sunday, indicated that the suspect was arrested following a report by the younger brother of the deceased who reported at Obalende Police station, Ijebu-Ode on Friday, February 28, that his elder sister who live in the same compound with the suspect at Ayegbami area of Ijebu-Ode was matcheted to death and the the suspect has ran away immediately after the incident.
“Upon the report, the DPO Obalende division, Omonijo Sunday mobilised his detectives to the scene where the corpse of the victim was recovered and taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while serious manhunt was launched for the fleeing suspect”, Oyeyemi said.
The efforts of the detectives yielded positive result when the suspect was about boarding an Ebonyi State bound motor but was apprehended by policemen who had already laid ambush for him due to intelligence information they already have about him.
On interrogation, Oyeyemi said the suspect confessed committing the crime because she accused him of stealing a phone which infuriated him.
The suspect confessed further that he cut off the woman’s two hands because she wanted to struggle the Cutlass with him.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
