We will ensure you land in prison for rigging Ogun LG poll, NNPP chair, Oginni threatens OGSIEC officials

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Ogun state on Tuesday disclosed plans to initiate 20 lawsuits against the State Independent Electoral Commission and All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it described as “pre election and post election open stealing by Abiodun-led APC”.

The party accused the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led APC government of allegedly murdering democracy and fundamental rights of the people in the state.

The Chairman of the party, Sunday Olaposi Ogini made the accusation on Tuesday during a press briefing held at the party’s Secretariat in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Oginni threatened to send officials of OGSIEC to prison for allegedly conniving with APC to rig the LG poll.

It would be recalled that the state held it Chairmanship and Ward elections on Saturday July 24, 2021.

However, OGSIEC declared candidates of the ruling APC as winners of all the chairmanship seats across 20 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Chairmen were also sworn-in by the Governor on Monday barely 24 hours after the OGSIEC’s declaration.

But, Oginni at the Press conference accused the APC of allegedly stealing the mandates of the candidates who contested under the platform of NNPP, insisting that the act of the ruling party was fraudulent.

The NNPP chair noted that the party won in some of the local governments of the state but the APC allegedly upturned the outcome.

Ogini however said he was disappointed in the commission for serving as a tool in the hand of the state government to allegedly rig the elections.

He described the OGISEC officials as candidates of prison, insisting that the NNPP would not hesitate to send them there.

He said “This OGISEC officials that they used to do this rigging are candidates of prison and will send them to the prison.

“The Electoral act is very clear that when an officer is seem to have perpetrated fraud such officer will face the wrought of the law.

“In 2019, some INEC officials were imprisoned so some of the OGISEC officials are set for prison and we will send them there.

The Chairman equally stressed that none of the APC candidates was qualify for the elections.

He argued that the APC had no legal framework to present candidates for elections since it’s committee had been dissolved since 2020.

Ogini explained that APC which has been operating under caretaker since 2020 that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party dissolved its executives in Ogun has no legal right to present candidates for the poll.

His words “Our point is that APC has no capacity, legality and the frameworks to present candidate at the Local government elections.

“On December 8th, 2020, the NEC of APC dissolved Ogun APC Executives and since then they have appointed only three-man caretaker committee to take care of the affairs of the party in the interim and up till today they haven’t corrected the abnormality.”

He added, “We have approached the court because we know that there’s no candidate of APC that stands the test of time as far as the constitution of Nigeria and that of Electoral act is concerned.

“We have instituted 20 different suits, local government by local government to correct the abnormal.

“Our point is that APC has no capacity, legality and the frameworks to present candidate at the Local government elections.

The Chairman boasted that his party was ready to take back all the 20 local governments in state after court’s intervention.
