Unity Schools Under Threat: USOSA Rallies Nationwide Protest Against ‘Reckless’ Asset Disposal

A nationwide confrontation is brewing as members of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) move from quiet concern to open resistance over what they describe as looming threats to the assets and legacy of Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges.
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, thousands of alumni are expected to flood the streets of Lagos, Abuja, and Kano in a coordinated awareness walk that is rapidly evolving into a symbolic stand against any attempt to tamper with the heritage of the revered institutions.
Branded under the rallying call, “Pro Unitate – Better Together,” the mobilisation reflects a deepening anxiety within the alumni community over reports suggesting that key assets belonging to Unity Schools could be earmarked for commercialisation or outright disposal.
For many within USOSA, the issue goes beyond property—it strikes at the very soul of a system designed to unite a diverse nation.
“This is not just about land or infrastructure. It is about preserving a national idea,” a senior member of the association disclosed. “Unity Schools were established to bridge divides and build shared identity. Undermining them for short-term gains is a betrayal of that vision.”
What began as internal deliberations has now transformed into a structured, nationwide advocacy movement. Digital campaigns are already gaining momentum, with alumni adopting branded visuals and coordinated messaging to amplify awareness ahead of the walk.
The planned demonstration is also being interpreted as a defining moment for alumni activism in Nigeria—signaling a shift from passive engagement to deliberate, organised civic pressure.
Coordinators across the three cities are finalising logistics to ensure a peaceful but impactful outing, one that organisers insist will send an unmistakable message to decision-makers.
As tensions rise ahead of May 9, USOSA’s position is firm and unyielding: the Unity Schools are not commodities to be traded—they are enduring symbols of national cohesion, and must be protected at all costs.
