UN Disowns Adeniyi Adeyemi’s Alleged Appointment, Denies Any Affiliation With Youth Office
The United Nations Youth Office has formally distanced itself from Mr Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, declaring that he holds no appointment, employment or affiliation with the organisation and has never been authorised to represent the United Nations in any capacity.
The clarification follows controversy surrounding Adeyemi’s purported appointment and documents allegedly connected to a position within the UN Youth Office.
In an official communication dated July 27, 2026, with reference number UNYO-2026-0017, the UN Youth Office reportedly confirmed that Adeyemi had no formal relationship with the office. The communication was released through Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
The clarification came in response to an inquiry by Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the UN dated July 1, 2026, requesting verification of Adeyemi’s alleged appointment and the authenticity of documents associated with the claim.
According to the UN Youth Office, Adeyemi does not hold any appointment or employment with the organisation and has never received authorisation to act or speak on its behalf.
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, said the official response had provided clarity on the controversy surrounding Adeyemi’s status and the documents reportedly linked to his purported appointment.
The controversy had also generated allegations concerning the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, following claims surrounding documents allegedly associated with Adeyemi’s purported position.
Ibrahim maintained that the UN’s clarification had put the matter in proper perspective, arguing that the official communication established that Adeyemi was neither an appointee nor an authorised representative of the UN Youth Office.
He urged journalists, media organisations and members of the public to rely on verified communications from the United Nations and other competent institutions when reporting matters involving international appointments.
The diplomat also warned against circulating unverified information, noting that misinformation could damage the reputation of individuals and institutions.
The latest clarification represents the UN Youth Office’s official position on Adeyemi’s purported appointment and effectively rejects claims linking him to an official role within the organisation.
