Respect for Human Rights I’ll help fight the scourge of modern day slavery techniques – Ogun PDP Chieftain “Tola Banjo” says as he speaks on Slave Trade Remembrance Day

A former Deputy Speaker, Ogun state House of Assembly and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun State, Rt.Hon. Tola Banjo has encouraged government at all tiers to work towards fighting against modern day slavery with a view to creating a better future for the next generation.
This was contained in a statement released by the Ogun PDP chieftain as he joined other Nigerians and world over to commemorate this year’s slave trade Remembrance day.
Hon. Tola Banjo in the message regretted that despite the abolition of slave trade several years ago, the modern day slavery still thriving around the globe, thereby slowing down developmental efforts of underdeveloped, developed and developing countries.
“Commemorating the past is to address current issues in Nigeria and promote social progress. As we are aware, in contemporary times, new forms of slavery have emerged, especially the modern day subtle, concealed and undefended forms of slavery, hence the need for government and development partners to rise up and fight the scourge by creating a platform for all individual and ethnic groups to develop with access to basic social amenities among other things”.
“For example, today, child and adult slavery and forced labour are illegal in almost all countries, as well as being against international law, but human trafficking for labour and for sexual bondage continues to affect tens of millions of adults and children. So it’s time for us to join hands and seek for solutions to their elimination.he said.
He called on government to fulfill all promises and give respect for human rights a chance.
