Police nabs Microfinance Bank staff who flees with Customer’s N1.97m in Ogun
A staff of a microfinance bank in Ogun State, Esther Hamidu,who allegedly fled with one of the banks customers’ contributions totalling N1.97m, has been arrested by the operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.
Hamidu, a credit officer, who was reported to have absconded with the daily contribution of the affected bank’s customers from March and December 2022, was arrested in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The suspect ordeal started when the branch manager of the bank located in Abeokuta, noticed non remittance of contributions of the bank’s customers and immediately reported the development to the Police.
Hamidu was said to have disappeared after several failed attempts to make her remit the contribution.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Friday.
The PPRO said, “Yes, she has been arrested. She has been transferred from Ibadan, where she was arrested, to Ogun State. She has confessed to the crime. She could not explain what she did with the money.”
