Police arrest 37-year-old man for beating his wife to death in Ogun

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 37-year-old man, Mutiu Sonola who allegedly beat his 34-year-old wife, Zainab Shotayo to death in Abeokuta, the State capital.
The suspect, according to a statement by the Command’s Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Thursday, was arrested on Christmas day, following a report by the deceased’s father to the police.
The victim’s father, according to Oyeyemi, reported at the Ibara Police division in Abeokuta, that he got a call that his daughter and her husband were having a misunderstanding.
He further told the police that he quickly raced to the scene and rushed her daughter to the General hospital, Ijaye where the doctor confirmed her dead.
The husband took to his heels as soon as he realised that the victim had died, the Command’s Spokesman added.
He added, “On the strength of the report, the DPO Ibara division, SP Dada Olusegun mobilised his detectives and went after the suspect. His hiding place was eventually located and he was promptly arrested.”
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the man was fond of beating the deceased at any slight provocation and that the incident of that fateful day was a very minor disagreement,” Oyeyemi disclosed.
The corpse of the deceased had been deposited at General hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
